Email details to us at journal@usgo.org GO NEWS Where To Play Go In America Playing Go in America just got a whole lot easier. Updated information on more than 100 Go clubs in 32 states is instantly available on the AGA’s website at http://www.usgo.org/usa/chapclub.asp Just click on the state you’re interested in and you’ll get a list of Go clubs, along with local contact information (including email and phone) as well as where and when the club meets. The fifty official chapters of the American Go Association are indicated by the AGA logo. Chapters have voting rights, may hold AGA rated tournaments, receive funding for teaching programs, and much more. “Special thanks to Mike Samuel and Bill Cobb for their tremendous help,” says AGA webmaster Chuck Robbins. Samuel, a graphic artist known to Journal readers for his “Cross-Cuts” column, put together the digital version of the AGA logo. AGA Chapter Coordinator Bill Cobb and Database Manager Sam Zimmerman pored over chapter and club lists to build the current database. Your comments and suggestions are welcome! Send them to us at mailto:journal@usgo.org Contributing To The Future Of Go The recent surge in the number of kids playing Go is in large part due to the annual Summer Go Camp held in Michigan. Camp founder Susan Weir reports that “Many of these kids simply won't be able to attend unless we can find the funds” to help cover costs. We’re not talking big bucks here: according to Weir, “We need to raise $1,000 to meet scholarship needs for Go Camp kids. Checks can be made out to either the AGA, or the AGF (tax deductible) and mailed to AGA Go Camp, P.O.Box 2032, Ann Arbor, MI 48106-2032 Think of it as a small investment in a big future for the game we love. Go: Crossing Cultures And Generations AGA Membership Secretary John Goon reports that the May 24 Japan American Society of Washington DC demo is in good shape but that volunteers are needed for several other upcoming events: - Wednesday, July 12, the Rockville Barnes & Noble Booksellers will host a Go demo from 7 to closing time; 6-8 players are needed to help teach and play Go. The format is a 30 minute talk followed by demo games and informal Q&A with the public. Four hours of non-stop outreach. - Wednesdays, July 19 and 26, the Rockville Senior Center will host an evening of Go lectures/games from 7:30 to 9:30; 4-6 volunteers are needed to help teach and play. Young Go players are encouraged to participate because one of the goals is to ignite interest in greater cross-generation activities. John Goon mailto:jgoon@erols.com 301-315-8297 A Story Only You Can Tell We’ve all had it: a flash of enlightenment at a lecture by a visiting professional, or an exciting game at the U.S. Open, a Go adventure on one of the Day Off trips. Everyone who’s been there has one: a special Go Congress memory. We’re looking for your favorite Go Congress memory for a special feature in the next American Go Journal: email it (300 words) to us at mailto:journal@usgo.org CHAPTER NEWS NOVA Update A scheduling conflict has displaced the NOVA (Northern Virginia) Go Club for the next two weeks but club coordinator Allan Abramson reports that “Bob Ehrlich has volunteered his place for the next two weeks. A very generous offer!” The club (which meets Mondays at 7P) will meet at Bob’s at 12102 Metcalf Circle; 703-830-6758 or mailto: rehrlich@gmu.edu for directions.
