The exquisite cuisine? Inquiring minds want to know! Email us today at mailto:journal@usgo.org JAG GO Go was recently played on the TV series JAG, according to Bob Mills of the new Frederick (MD) Go Club. Bob says that Go was actually mentioned by name and several moves were shown on-camera. Apparently the stones appeared to have been placed inside the squares, instead of on the intersections, but hey, we can't have everything. Of course, the good guy won (no word on who played what color). PRIORITIES STRAIGHT The former President of the Hungarian Go Association visited Chicago last week, reports Bob Barber. Dr. Peter Vermes and his businesss associate, Tamas Mahler attended "an extraordinary session" held in Dr. Vermes' honor at the Evanston Go Club last Monday night, Bob says. "It was clear both nights Dr. Vermes was here that playing Go was more important than sleeping," says Bob of the IGS 6k*, "We wish him well during the rest of his U.S. visit." Dr. Vermes headed to North Carolina, after which they planned to drive to New Hampshire. For more information on his travels, contact Zsolt Zsofka mailto:goplayer@mediaone.net CONTRIBUTING TO THE FUTURE OF GO (2) In last week's plea for contributions to fund scholarships for kids to attend this year's Summer Go Camp, we suggested that you "Think of it as a small investment in a big future for the game we love." Responded one reader: "Think of it as another example of the value of the E-Journal. I sent $200." Remember, we're not talking big bucks here. Camp organizer Susan Weir says "We need to raise $1,000 to meet scholarship needs for Go Camp kids. Checks can be made out to either the AGA, or the AGF (tax deductible) and mailed to AGA Go Camp, P.O.Box 2032, Ann Arbor, MI 48106-2032 CURRENT AGA CHAPTER LIST Database Manager Sam Zimmerman reports that the following Go clubs are current in their AGA dues, entitling them to vote at this year's annual meeting. And, of course, it's best when played in a beautiful setting. The upcoming Brooklyn Go Tournament (6/10-11) will be held outdoors under the early June sky in the world-famous Brooklyn Botanic Garden. "We will be surrounded by trees, plants and flowers from all over the world," reports organizer Morrsarian Palmer, "as well as close to one of the most impressive rose gardens in the country." Palmer notes that although the Brooklyn Go Club has exerted a seminal influence on American Go (many AGA Presidents have come from the ranks of the BGC), "We have never had a major, interstate tournament. And because our overhead will be low, we will be returning most of the entry fees to winners in each category." "Furthermore, the Garden, in celebration of the re-opening of their Japanese Garden has promised gift-certificates and other prizes to supplement the cash awards." More info: Morrsarian 718-636-6348 NOVA UPDATE The scheduling conflict that has displaced the NOVA (Northern Virginia) Go Club for the past two weeks will be resolved by next week's meeting. "We'll be back in business at the church on the 29th" promises club coordinator Allan Abramson. AUSTIN BACK ONLINE "I'm finally starting to get my new website up and running," reports Austin club coordinator Jeff Shaevel "and the first thing I did was get the Austin Go Club page back on. It doesn't have much at the moment, just directions to the club, but that's the important thing."
