Lots of news and information. Just what I need to feed my insatiable appetite for the game. I can hardly wait for the second issue. Keep up the great work!" - Edward Yap, in the Philippines CHAPTER NEWS Kukol Exits D.C. Ray Kukol, a mainstay of the Washington DC area Go scene since the early 1950's, is moving to Nevada at the end of July. Ray was president of the Greater Washington Go Club during the 1960's and 70's and he influenced several generations of area Go players. His support of local and national Go activities throughout the 1980's and 90's helped lay the foundation for the game's current popularity. DC's loss is Nevada's gain. If you want to wish him well, Ray's address is raykk@erols.com. Brooklyn Goes Upstate The oldest floating Go club in New York – aka the Brooklyn Go Club – gathered in the Catskills for its annual Fourth of July get-together. The weather was idyllic, the bugs were few and the Go stones hit the boards from dawn's early light until the starlit wee hours. Good music, food and companionship were the order of the long weekend as old and new friends were made across and around the Go boards. Don Wiener's Guiness Book record of consecutive Go-playing hours remains intact, despite a brief feline supplies interlude. Spasiba! "I am looking for someone who can help me write a Go flyer in Russian," reports John Goon. "A nearby community has a large number of Russian senior citizens that I'd like to approach. The city Senior Center where we will be teaching Go in July suggested this idea. Any help would be appreciated." - John Goon jgoon@erols.com NOTE: this listing is not all-inclusive, featuring only upcoming tournaments in the next month or events which require early registration.
