The campaign will be covered in the E-Journal, the American Go Journal and on the AGA's website. This week, the E-Journal features brief opening statements by both candidates. ROY LAIRD As a Go enthusiast, I have been writing, organizing and editing for the AGA for over twenty years. Since becoming President in 1998, I've worked hard to maintain the close-knit ties of the organization while providing the structure to allow it to flourish and grow. Today, we are financially sound, membership and donations are up, and more members are actively involved. Just last year, over 5,000 children learned this wonderful game through new AGA programs. I'm proud of where we are today. But I want to know your priorities, too. The AGA is, after all, an extraordinary partnership among us all. - Roy Laird: president@usgo.org JEFF SHAEVEL CHOICE: Welcome to something we've rarely had in selecting AGA officers--choice. I am running for AGA president to give you, the members, the opportunity to learn about those in charge--our qualifications, our visions, our goals--and the opportunity to CHOOSE the candidate you want to lead. Please avail yourself of us, through the information provided on the web, through the discussions in the journals, private e-mail, public discussions, the Congress, etc. Let us know what's important to you, and find out what you need to make an informed decision. Let's all work together to make this organization strong--make your voice and vote count. - Jeff Shaevel: vp-central@usgo.org YOUR MOVE: READERS WRITE "This is certainly no big deal, but I want to point out a minor inconsistency that bothers me. In the listing of AGA officers, some are in the format [OFFICE/NAME] and others are in the form [NAME/OFFICE]. This makes it hard to scan. I would like to suggest making them consistent in one format or the other. - George Wilson (Ed. Note: Thanks for the sharp eye, George! See the now-consistent list below) SCOREBOARD: Tournament Winner Reports JULY 15-20: WORLD YOUTH GOE CHAMPIONSHIP "Korea won both divisions of the 17th World Youth Goe Championship held July 15-20 in Prague, Czech Republic," reports Michael Bull. "Hur Young Ho won the senior championship and Kang Dong Hoon won the Junior. Second place in both divisions went to China, third to Taiwan. US junior player Eric Lui took 5th. Canada's Timothy Law was 5th in the Senior section. US senior player, Matthew Curran finished in 11th place."
