TAG TEAM GO An experimental variation first tried at last year's Go Congress, Tag Team Go features teams of 3-5 players, each of whom specialize in the various parts of that game: opening, middle, endgame, life & death and tesuji. Coordinated by a captain (who has the option of being a playing or non-playing captain), the players "tag" in and out of the game depending on what's happening (i.e. if a life-and-death problem comes up in the middle of the opening, the life-and-death player is sent in). Players may consult about whether it's time to "tag in" but not about the actual moves. Two teams were captained again this year by Jeff Horn and Chris Garlock, with Garlock's team once more taking the World Tag Team Go Championship honors. Horn's team consisted of Jeff, Barry Nolin and Mark Gilston, while non-playing team captain Garlock was joined by Phil Straus, Anders Kierulf and Jeff Shaevel. Everyone had a great time and judging by the amount of interest from other Go players, this experiment may be expanded to more teams in an actual event next year.
