Spectacularly organized at the spacious Bellocarribe Hotel in Havana by Rafael Torres Miranda, his wife Yvonne and the Cuban Go Association, the two day event went off without a hitch. The first day included more than a dozen children from the Cuban Go Academy, where over 300 youngsters are playing Go under the same government-supported philosophy that Cuba has used in training its world-famous doctors and musicians. Although the Cubans seem to like to call themselves '1-dans,' they certainly gave our 3-dans very good games! More details and photos will appear in the next Journal, including information about the Cuban International 5-day Tournament in January, 2001. -Peter Shotwell YOUR MOVE: READERS WRITE A Pro a Day "I have enjoyed your daily reports from the U.S. Go Congress very much, especially the quotes from Pros. Thank you very much. Please give us an update on the Computer Go Tournament at the Congress." - Homer H. Hummel Jr. (Final results: 1st: Many Faces of Go; 2nd: Smart Go; 3rd: Poka) Virtual Congress "I had to miss the Go Congress this year but am attending vicariously through the E-Journal. I am not the only one! I spoke with a friend yesterday who is also enjoying these updates. Both of us are now more determined than ever to attend next year! These are the efforts that keep our Go community alive and active. Kudos and Thanks." - Sandra Edson (Mark your calendar now: August 4-12, 2001 in Baltimore, Maryland) See You in Baltimore "I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for your daily updates. How I would love to be there again this year! I'm missing all my friends (a whole family of Burralls, among others), but seeing their names in the news is providing impetus to see them NEXT time! Thanks for taking time each day from what I'm SURE is a busy schedule." - Bruce Bailey (Seeing old friends – and making new ones – is one of the main attractions of the Congress. See you in Baltimore next year!) CORRECTIONS So Sory! "Thanks for putting the 14,000-foot game in, but please, it's with two 'n's" Glenn Peters Right Winner, Wrong League "Eric Lui won the Senior Divison Redmond cup?
