The U.S. Open -- the main congress tournament -- boasts the largest and strongest field of the year, with some 255 players this year, The 6 round open is played each morning with many games lasting well over three hours. In the afternoons, professionals -- 14 have come from Japan, China, Korea and, of course, the U.S. -- lecture and play simultaneous games with amateurs.
