Having won the first game of this match, perhaps he felt daring. The historic showdown between Sakata Eio and Rin Kaiho, Meijin for the 1968 Honinbo Title took place in Kyushu, Japan. Today's game, Round Two, was originally published in Go Review VIII, 7, and features typically severe, Sakata-style moves and a move that Rin spent three hours on. For more info email ted.peterson@pfizer.com China Boosts Komi China has adopted a 7.5 komi, reports Yuan Zhou. According to the Chinese weiqi (Go) website, the Professional Chinese Weiqi Association officially changed the komi to 7.5 points which is equal to the Ing komi, says Zhou. Official tournaments in China are using the new komi now. After years of study and experience, most of the Chinese professional players agree that 5.5 points komi gives the advantage to Black. Zhou points out that this move vindicates Mr. Ing, who long contended that the 5.5 komi was too low. Official komi in the leading Go-playing countries are now: Japan 5.5, Korea 6.5 and China 7.5. Upcoming NAMT Games Game #3: Promotional Match game #2 between: Xiaoren He, 5-dan and Xuefen Lin, 1-dan is set for Sunday, 3/24, 2P EST. Game #4 - Challenger Round game between: Feng Yun, 9-dan and Janice Kim, 1-dan will be played Sunday, 3/24, 3P EST. All games are played on IGS. Please see http://www.usgo.org/NAMT for complete schedule and game records. Quattro Mani to perform "A Game of Go" Haskell Small's composition "A Game of Go", a musical setting of a Shusaku-Yuzo game, will be performed several times in the near future by the two-piano team Quattro Mani. In Brookings, South Dakota, "Go" will be performed at 4P March 24 at the South Dakota State University by the Brookings Chamber Music Society at Peterson Hall on SDSU campus. An April 7 performance is set for 4P at Colorado College in Packard Hall. At both performances, the video of the actual game (an exciting game that ends in jigo) will be enacted live with the music. "Go" will also be performed in Weill Hall in New York (the "small" Carnegie Hall) on June 5. Unfortunately, for this performance, Carnegie Hall rules make it prohibitive to include the video, but Small says that even without the video the performance should be riveting. This two-piano team was described in a review as playing this music with a "Take no prisoners" performance. More info: Haskell Small haskellsmall@starpower.net ONLINE GO: San Francisco Go Club It is fitting that the web page of the oldest Go club in the country is both packed with useful information and visually elegant. The background of the San Francisco web page -- http://sfgoclub.com/index.html -- is a pleasant creamy yellow color with a repeating embossed pattern of the SFGC's logo while a graphic of a Go board and a nicely composed photograph of the membership of the club grace the top of the page. A light blue, which harmonizes well with the creamy yellow, sets off groups of links along the left side of the page including New Information and Upcoming Events, About the Club, Beginners Corner, Game Commentary, Newsletters, Other Local Clubs, Other Go Sites, Play Go on the Internet, and Go Equipment. The Beginners Corner provides useful information such as details about lessons provided by the club. There is also a description of what it is like to attend a Go club which will put those considering stopping by for the first time at ease. This is an excellent idea considering that many players find their way to Go through the online servers these days. The Newsletters link includes pdf issues of the SFGC Newsletter as well as the E-Journal articles going back to 2/4/02. Let's hope previous editions find their way into the archive. A notable feature of the page is its many attractive examples of Go art which grace the right side of the page in areas where the lack of text would otherwise leave large areas of negative space. This combination of elegance and utility is typical of the entire site, which could easily serve as a model for clubs looking to create a page of their own. This is the third in a series of articles examining web pages of some of the chapters of the American Go Association. If you have a chapter page that you are proud of, and would like to have covered, please email me at onlinego@usgo.org with the name of your club and the url of your page. Terri Schurter -- onlinego@usgo.org -- has been playing go online since 1995. Her club, Wings Across Calm Waters [http://www.wingsgoclub.org] , is a "virtual" chapter of the AGA. Wings meets week-nights on the Zone from 8-10P EST, and on Wednesday nights at 8P on KGS. Terri plays under the name goddess_of_go.
