Succession is an important but often neglected topic in the AGA.
I've been directed by the AGA Board of Directors to form a Search Committee with the mission of determining potential candidates for the AGA Presidency and then reporting the Committee's findings to the Board later this year. As the Committee forms and begins its important work, I am asking you to respond if you might be interested in serving the American Go Association as its President or if you know of someone who you believe the Search Committee should contact.
The AGA needs to discover new and hidden talent among its membership who can provide sound management and leadership for our organization. The existence of an active Board, that is capable of coaching the President, helps ensure that a skilled managerial person could achieve success even if relatively new to the workings of the national organization. Here are some of the qualities being sought in a Presidential candidate, understanding that it is an idealized list:
Key Management/Leadership Qualities: willingness to accept responsibility for performance; commitment to excellence and action; demonstrates strong communication skills; tolerance for ambiguity; open to new ideas; has sufficient time and energy; has AGA knowledge; understands basics of management, reporting and planning.
Strength of Character: demonstrates integrity; possesses insight and intelligence; shows courage of convictions; shows capability to be a team player; shows a posture of willingness to serve the organization; possesses respect and viability in the go community; leads a balanced life.
