Notes from the Board of Directors

In addition to the American Go Association's weekly American Go E-Journal, beginning in 2003, the AGA sent out a few Board Notes, containing news from the AGA Board of Directors about the AGA organization.

See also AGA Board of Directors page for board meeting agendas, minutes, and decisions.

Aug. 09, 2002 Annual Membership Meeting notes at US Go Congress / Chicago.

Jan. 24, 2003 Board Notes: assumption of office, first official meeting, ethical standards (conflict of interest), mission statement, etc. (text)

Mar. 13, 2003 Agenda: Email traffic among the AGA Chapters list re: agenda for the March 13 Board of Directors teleconference. Tentative agenda consists of budget, staffing, foreign chapters, election committee, open ballot for board of directors, four motions on committee procedure, mission statement and AGA goals. Most traffic debates the open ballot by chapter representatives for Board of Directors candidates. Some prefer secret ballot; some argue for direct election by the AGA membership, rather than by chapter reps.; etc.

Apr. 7, 2003 Committee Report on Conflict of Interest: Emailed to the AGA Chapters list, a report to the AGA Board of Directors from the Governance and Policy Committee. "The Board seeks comments on the report and the conflict-of-interest issue from the membership. Please feel free to contact your regional directors or other Board members if you wish to express an opinion."

Apr. 10, 2003 Agenda: Email traffic among the AGA Chapters list re: agenda for the April 10 Board of Directors teleconference. Tentative agenda consists of budget (youth outreach, pro tournament); conflict of interest policy.

July 25, 2003 Board Notes: Presidential Search Committee seeks candidates. (text)

October 16, 2003: The Board of Directors shocked and astonished the American go community by replacing President Chris Kirschner with Denver- based organizer Deedee Eckles (known primarily as the Pro Liasion at recent Go Congresses). Eventually, 3 of the 7 Directors resigned. No "Board Notes" editions of the AGEJ were published, but here are AGEJ issues which mention the controversy (also available in PDF from the AGA: ouster and recall coverage):
Oct. 17: News Flash - Oct. 20: Ouster Shocks... - Oct. 27: Controversy... Continues - Nov. 3: Board... Recall - Nov. 10: Recall Blocked - Nov. 17: Second... Resigns - Nov. 24: ... Meeting Postponed, Recall ... Off - Dec. 9: Boley ... Chair - Dec. 15: ... Straw Poll - Dec. 22: Shaevel, Cobb & Haynes... - Jan. 5: Kirschner Reinstated - Feb. 9: Lessons Learned...
In addition, a page was put up at the AGA website, with links to pertinent documents: www.usgo.org/org/recall.asp;
and Steven Mount posted a summary: www.wam.umd.edu/~smount/AGAmess/

Search the AGEJ archive:

Boolean: Case
Simple search matches partial words (searching for "seki" also finds "fuseki" and "joseki").
Match
Sophisticated search is case-insensitive, and does not match partial words; but the * wildcard will match truncations up to 6 characters.
