Midsummer Festival at Seattle Chinese Garden Song Mei Pavillion

The Seattle Chinese Garden Society invited us to demonstrate the game of Go at their Midsummer Festival, Sunday July 27, 2003, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. We hoped to also show off with a lightning tournament, but instead spent the whole time demonstrating the game to new players and playing casual games with visitors like Yu Yu. A large family who came up from Portland, Oregon, took to the game like ducks to water, so we hope they'll get in touch with players from Portland.

A beautiful place to GO... Song Mei Pavillion overlooks West Seattle Greenbelt, skyscrapers, and Space Needle We also enjoyed Tai Chi, Chinese poetry (in English), kites, and traditional Chinese musical instruments. After the festival ended, Jason and I had our first rated match in some time, at the stone table near the pavillion. All in all, it was a pleasant way to spend a sunny Sunday, and I'd be happy to do it again next year.

The garden and Song Mei Pavillion are next to at the north parking lot of South Seattle Community College, 6000 16th Avenue SW, in West Seattle (directions to the garden).
