The board was handmade by Peter from an old cutting board; the black and white stones are the Chinese style, flat on one side, with beautiful jade bowls. Peter got the blue and copper colored glass "stones" from a craft supplies store.
It was fun, and I'll gladly try it again; but I think I prefer regular
two-player go, or pair go. Tactics were oddly complicated by
the need to defend against multiple players ganging up on you (for
example, the bamboo joint can be cut; and monkey jumps are
just plain evil). Strategic considerations were strangely impacted by
players negotiating temporary alliances for mutual benefit. Ko didn't
really arise, but seems to work (almost) normally. All in all, it was
kind of mind-bending, and tended to bring out our latent paranoia. :-D
