Getting to the UPS Go Club
University of Puget Sound has an active go club.
Students, faculty, and the general public play in the Wheelock Student Union Building on
Sundays at 2:00 p.m., Mondays at 7:00 p.m., and Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.
Strength of the regular players ranges from beginner to 6-dan AGA; all are welcome.
- From Seattle:
- Take I-5 south to Tacoma. After you pass
the Tacoma Dome, stay to the right for exit 132 and follow Highway 16
toward Gig Harbor / Bremerton.
- From Olympia:
- Take I-5 north to Tacoma. After you pass
exit 130 (S. 56th St), stay right for exit 132, then stay left to follow
Highway 16 toward Gig Harbor / Bremerton.
Once you're on Hwy. 16, stay left past the first exit
(Sprague), then merge right to take the next exit (Union Ave).
At the bottom of the offramp, turn right and go north on S. Union Ave. In
about 1.5 miles, turn right onto 6th Ave (which, incidently, divides the S.
streets from the N.). Go east on 6th Ave for 4 blocks, then turn left onto
N. Alder St. Go north on N. Alder about half a mile, and at N. 14th or
N. 15th, turn left into the UPS parking lot.
- From Gig Harbor / Kitap Peninsula:
- Go south on Highway
16 over the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Take the second exit, which is S. Pearl
St. At the bottom of the offramp, turn right. Go north on S. Pearl St for
one block, and turn right onto 6th Ave. You'll pass under Hwy 16, and
continue east on 6th Ave almost 2 miles, then turn left onto N. Alder St.
Go north on N. Alder about half a mile, and at N. 14th or N. 15th, turn left
into the UPS parking lot.
Parking is free and plentiful on the weekends. If you entered from N. 14th,
the Student Union is the big building on your right (there's a door marked
"The Cellar", but use one of the other doors). If you entered from N. 15th,
the Student Union is on your left. Inside is an information booth. They
will direct you back to the rotunda, which is the room we play in if it is
available. Otherwise, just beyond the rotunda is the area with tables and
booths where we most often play.
- By Bus:
- Catch the Pierce County Transit
bus #16 downtown at S. 11th St. & Commerce St., and
take it to N. 15th & N. Alder St.; or use routes #11
(connects the Vashon Island ferry) or #51, both of which
pass few blocks from the Student Union Building.
There's a snack shop (cash only) in the Student Center, and there are
off-campus restaurants nearby.
